Buttermilk Biscuits
Buttermilk Biscuits
I love homemade biscuits they are buttery and fluffy and can be served sweet with some homemade jam or savory with gravy. This recipe is easy to make and so much better than the ones that come from a can. I'm not sure who's handwriting this is but I'm guessing 4000 degrees is a little too hot so I baked mine at 400F.
Ingredients
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp sugar (optional)
2 oz butter
1 cup buttermilk
In a mixing bowl combine flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and sugar.
Use the paddle attachment and mix on low speed until the mixture looks crumbly.
If you don't have a mixer you can use a pastry blender to cut in the butter or just break it up the butter with your fingers.
Add Buttermilk and mix just enough to make a dough. Being careful not to over mix.
Dump out dough on a heavily floured surface and pat the dough till about 1/2" thick. Cut with a round 3"cutter. If you don't have a round cookie cutter an upside down glass works as well.
Place on a sheet pan and brush the tops with a little extra buttermilk and bake at 400F for approximately 15-20 minutes
Bake to a beautiful golden brown.
I served mine with some leftover ham and gravy.
